Sam Lowes took victory at the Moto2 Alcaniz Grand Prix by over four seconds for the Marc VDS racing team after leading from pole position.
The Brit’s triumph means that he now leads the Moto2 Championship with just three rounds to go.
The remaining podium places were completed by the Fabio Di Giannantonio, the MB Conveyors Speed Up rider starting from 4th on the grid, and previous championship leader Bastianini, who started from 6th place.
Lowes had a scorching start into the first corner, pulling off a sizeable gap from Remy Gardener who managed to slot his Onexox TKKR bike in between the number 22 rider and Jorge Navarro, who started from second.
Fellow Brit Jake Dixon also made a good start as the lights went out, the Petronas Sprinta pilot gradually moving through the field to 4th position having started from 7th.
Kasma Daniel and Thomas Luthi had a shortened race which ended at the first corner on the first lap when the pair collided, each low-siding their Moto2 machines into the run-off area.
Sky Racing Team VR46 rider Marco Bezzechi was another non-finisher, the Italian low-siding his bike at T2 in the opening few laps.
This was later followed by the Flexbox HP 40 rider of Hector Garzo tumbling at Turn 8 on the downhill approach into the corkscrew on the eleventh lap.
Starting from the sixth row on the grid, there was heartbreak for Garzo’s team-mate, Baldassarri, the Italian crashing on lap 16 with 5 laps remaining.
Jorge Navarro had a impressive race after he was able to bag a 5th-place finish just three positions behind his team-mate, following a pass on the Marc VDS rider of Augusto Fernandez at Turn 1 on lap 15.
Riders finishing outside points-scoring positions include VR46 rider Luca Marini who ended his race in 11th place from Xavi Vierge and Malaysian rider Hafizh Syahrin who finished in 12th and 13th respectively.
