Formula 1’s on-track return to the Nurburgring has been delayed due to inclement weather conditions at the venue.
The championship has made a comeback to the circuit after a seven-year absence but misty and drizzly conditions prevailed on Friday morning.
Shortly before the planned start of the first practice session an update was released by Race Control confirming that the medical helicopter is unable to fly.
As a result the 90-minute session will start on time but the exit of the pit lane will not open.
A further update is not due to be given until 11:30 local time and there will be a 10-minute notification before pit exit opens.
It means there will be a maximum of 50 minutes of running in the session.
A race date of October 11 is the latest in the year that Formula 1 has visited the Nurburgring.
Temperatures are currently at 11c, with the track registering 12c, due to the autumnal conditions.
Brighter but chiller conditions are expected for the remainder of the weekend.
