Formula 1 drivers have been warned that they must respect track limits at the final corner of the Sochi Autodrom at this weekend’s Russian Grand Prix or risk having their lap time erased.
In his pre-event notes Formula 1 Race Director Michael Masi warned that drivers will have their times deleted if they run wide at the Turn 2 right-hander.
They were also reminded to follow a specific route through the run-off, negotiating the bollards, if they miss the apex of the turn.
In updated notes issued ahead of final practice on Saturday morning drivers have now been told they cannot run wide through the final 90-degree corner at the circuit.
“A lap time achieved during any practice session or the race by leaving the track and cutting behind the red and white painted kerb on the exit of Turn 18, will result in that lap time being invalidated by the stewards,” read aa clause added to the event notes.
If a driver exceeds track limits through Turn 2 or Turn 18 on a hot lap their effort will be scrubbed from the board.
A breach of the advice three times during the race will result in a black and white flag being shown and then any further abuse will be reported to the stewards.
