Sergio Perez has questioned why some Racing Point team members have begun to “hide things” from him following the announcement of his departure from the Formula 1 outfit after 2020.
The Silverstone-based squad, which will rebrand to Aston Martin in 2021, announced earlier this month that it has opted to part ways with Perez and sign a multi-year deal with four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.
Perez has not yet committed his future to F1, but confirmed on Thursday at Sochi that he has held discussions with some teams.
With eight races remaining in the 2020 season Racing Point is locked in a battle for third in the Constructors’ Championship and is only 14 points behind McLaren.
“We are focusing on the races ahead, it’s going to be so crucial that we deliver every single point, it’s very important for the Constructors’ Championship,” Perez said.
“We still can have the best season in our history. If we manage to finish third… I think we are all going to be very disappointed if we don’t manage to get that third place in the Constructors’ Championship.”
“Obviously, since the news came out, some people inside the team tend to hide things, which I don’t think is great.
“At the moment I think we need to be as transparent as possible to make sure we achieve our goals and make sure we score as many points as we possibly can.”
Perez will once more compete without the upgraded RP20 as Racing Point has only readied the parts for Lance Stroll in the wake of the Canadian’s violent accident at Mugello.
