Rene Rast has taken his first win of the 2020 DTM season by beating Nico Müller to the chequered flag at the Lausitzring by 0.089s.
Rast attempted to take the lead from polesitter Robin Frijns at the lead but ran wide before getting the pass done several laps later.
Frijns then attempted to take the race lead from the 2019 champion at turn one but was forced to give the position back for running Rast off track.
The Dutchman then got the move done after the pitstops and held on until lap 25, when Rast took the lead back and looked set for a comfortable win, until Nico Müller came charging up the field.
Müller had started second but dropped to fourth behind Rast, Frijns and Marco Wittmann in the opening exchanges and took a gamble by pitting late on lap 20. The Swiss driver dropped to seventh but put his fresh tyres to good use by quickly making up ground.
He made his way past Wittmann for third, then passed Frijns for second and chased after Rast. The battle came down to the final lap, with the pair coming across the line in a photo finish as Rast took the win by 0.089s ahead of Müller.
Frijns lost third place in the closing laps to Marco Wittmann, who took his first podium of the season. Frijns took fourth, ahead of Mike Rockenfeller, Timo Glock and Philipp Eng. The top ten was completed by Loic Duval, Jonathan Aberdein and Ferdinand Habsburg.
Fabio Scherer was the best placed rookie in eleventh, ahead of Harrison Newey and Robert Kubica. Lucas Auer was fourteenth, while Saturday podium finisher Sheldon van der Linde finished last.
Jamie Green was the only retirement of the race, retiring his Audi RS5 DTM with a mechical issue.
