Spire Motorsports has opted to put Stanton Barrett in its #77 Chevrolet for Sunday’s GoBowling.com 235 on the road course at Daytona International Speedway, the first-ever NASCAR Cup Series race on the course. Landon Cassill originally was supposed to be the driver of the car at Daytona and was slated to start 34th in the 39-car field Sunday.
“Looking forward to racing this weekend thanks to call from @spiremotorsportsllc Got everything adjusted and seat perfect!” Barrett [@StantonBarrett] posted on Instagram on Friday. “Ready for the first #NASCAR #roadcourse race at #Daytona hopefully some more to come this season!”
The race at Daytona will be Barrett’s first in any of NASCAR’s national series in 2020. He last contested a Cup Series race in 2019 with Rick Ware Racing at Talladega Superspeedway. In all, he has made 24 starts in the Cup Series since 1999, posting best finishes of 30th at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Phoenix Raceway.
Most of Barrett’s NASCAR races have come in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, where 204 races have resulted in one top-five and seven top-10 finishes.
