Simon Evans sealed the Drivers’ Championship title for the final season of the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY, with the Formula E support series coming to a close after two campaigns in Berlin.
In qualifying for the championship’s final race it was Caca Bueno who took pole position, however, by securing second on the grid, Evans outpaced title rival Sergio Jimenez with the Brazilian starting from third.
A strong getaway for the champion in-waiting saw the Kiwi maintain second place off the line while Bueno remained in front and Jimenez behind.
Over the course of the 25-minute + 1 lap race, Evans had a pace advantage over Bueno and strategically used Attack Mode to close up to the five-time Stock Car Brasil champion, searching for an overtake.
This switch of position materialised twice over the finale but only when Bueno armed the power boost device himself, dropping to second on both occasions only to regain the lead in each instance.
With the championship in mind, Evans maintained position behind the Jaguar Brazil Racing driver and while Bueno took his second victory of the season, the Kiwi took the crown by taking second, with Jimenez’s third place falling short as a title defense.
Alice Powell ended her time in the series with a fourth-placed finish while Nick Foster completed the top five. Gregory Segers, meanwhile, was sixth ahead of Takuma Aoki who completed the Pro field.
In the third Jaguar Brazil car, Adalberto Baptista secured victory in the Pro-Am class after sub-category champion Fahad Algosaibi pitted for repairs when the pair made contact.
Sven Forster came out on top in the VIP battle ahead of Jessica Hawkins – the pair taking ninth and 10th – with Algosaibi ultimately 11th. Paul Spooner failed to see the chequered flag.
As a result of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY will not return for a third season, ending its competitive spell with 39 drivers, five different winners, and two champions since 2018.
