Simon Evans took a third consecutive victory in the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY, reducing Sergio Jimenez’s championship lead to three points ahead of tomorrow’s finale.
The Kiwi, who won both races in the series’ Super Sunday schedule, started the penultimate race of the season from second on the grid, with Caca Bueno taking pole position.
Bueno maintained his lead from the outset, however, a missed deployment of Attack Mode cost the five-time Stock Car Brasil champion dearly as he lost first place to Evans with 11-minutes + 1 lap of racing remaining.
Both he, and his Jaguar Brazil team-mate in Jimenez, deployed Attack Mode together with 8-minutes and 4-minutes to go respectively in an attempt to close up to Evans out in front.
On both occasions, Bueno attacked for the lead, however, failed to get past just as the power boost device expired.
With just over one-minute + 1 lap of the race remaining, Evans armed his final use of Attack Mode and dropped to second as a result, however, ultimately overtook Bueno on the penultimate tour.
Opening up a 3.6s advantage, Evans took a dominant victory on the revised layout of the Tempelhof Circuit while Jimenez took second, with Bueno strategically swapping positions with his fellow countryman with the Drivers’ title fight in mind.
Nick Foster fronted a 4-6 result for the Jaguar China team as Gregory Segers followed Alice Powell to the chequered flag, with the Briton splitting the pair by completing the top five.
Paul Spooner took his first Pro-Am win to put an end to Fahad Algosaibi’s dominance in the sub-category, with the Saudi drivers taking seventh and eighth at the line.
He duelled heavily with Takuma Aoki throughout the race as the Japanese driver took ninth ahead of Adalberto Baptista.
A slow start for Jessica Hawkins resulted in a difficult race for the W Series star as she took 11th in the first VIP entry while Sven Forster completed the field in the second.
