Pirelli has clarified that a tyre failure was not to blame for the high-speed accident endured by AlphaTauri’s Daniil Kvyat at Formula 1’s British Grand Prix.
Kvyat speared off-track through Maggots at Silverstone on Sunday and careered into the barriers.
Footage suggested that there was a failure on the right-rear of Kvyat’s AlphaTauri AT01 and sole supplier Pirelli sent the tyre back to its base in Milan.
Pirelli has now concluded its investigation into the failure and determined that the tyre was not to blame.
“A separate mechanical issue led to the inside of the right-rear wheel rim overheating,” read a statement issued on Thursday.
“This in turn burned the bead of the tyre (the part of the tyre that connects the rubber to the wheel).
“As a result, the bead was no longer able to seal the tyre onto the rim.
“This is what caused the subsequent deflation, with the tyre itself playing no part in the cause of the accident.”
Cough BS Cough.. Enough Pirelli. You can’t even admit to providing defective rubber. I’ve had so many issues with your rubbish on road cars. I’ll never touch a Pirelli ever again…. pathetic
