Antonio Felix da Costa scored a third consecutive victory as Formula E’s Berlin showdown continues, further extending his lead at the top of the Drivers’ Championship.
One day on from his domination in the first leg of the Berlin E-Prix, the Portuguese racer commenced Race 2 with the best possible position after taking pole with a dominant performance over the rest of the field.
With Sebastien Buemi starting alongside, da Costa held the lead into Turn 1 and was ultimately unchallenged over the course of the 45-minute + 1 lap affair, using Attack Mode with 22 and 14-minutes to go respectively.
After leading every lap, the championship leader took the chequered flag 3.090s ahead of Buemi who took second for his Nissan e.dams team, taking a haul of 28 points.
The fight for the final podium position was a closely contested affair, with four drivers fighting for silverware until the very end of the race.
It was Lucas di Grassi who prevailed, however, for Audi to take his second podium of the season, holding off Robin Frijns, Stoffel Vandoorne and Sam Bird who filled out the fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively.
Oliver Rowland maintained his starting position over the race to come home with seventh while Edoardo Mortara prevailed over Jean-Eric Vergne in a late fight for eighth – the reigning champion ultimately taking 10th after Andre Lotterer overtook for ninth.
Outside of the points, third-placed starter Alex Lynn endured a tough race to front Mahindra Racing’s efforts in 11th while Mitch Evans – who was a key title contender in the run-up to race week – mustered only 12th for Jaguar.
Alexander Sims was the lead BMW i Andretti Motorsport driver in 21st, fighting forward from the pit lane after a 20-place grid penalty for a battery change and a subsequent stop-go penalty. Team-mate Maximilian Guenther failed to finish.
Formula E’s finale will continue on Saturday and Sunday as the field of 24 race around the traditional Tempelhof layout as the title fight continues.
