AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly described Formula 1’s British Grand Prix as ‘one of his best’ in Formula 1, as he rose through the field to seventh.
The Frenchman continued his strong start to the 2020 campaign after chasing down his rivals over the course of the 52-lap race.
Gasly started from 11th place on the grid after missing out on a spot in Q3 – despite setting an identical time to that of top 10-starter Lance Stroll.
Gasly slipped to 12th during the second Safety Car period, prompted by the huge accident for team-mate Daniil Kvyat, but worked his way back into the points.
He was even able to pass the struggling Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel on outright pace at Stowe on lap 38.
“I have to say I loved the race, it was probably one of the best ones on my side,” said Gasly.
“It was really tough, I was trying to give it everything to stay with the group ahead of us, with the Renault, the McLarens, the Racing Point and the Ferrari.
“I have to say the battle we had were really enjoyable. I managed to pass Lance but it was tight – that’s why we love racing, so I must say it was a great race for us.
“We didn’t expect to finish P7, especially after we had the Safety Car, that didn’t really play into our hands, as we’re down in P12, so we had to fight our way through.”
Despite being buoyed by the performance, Gasly believes there is still more to come.
“I must say that I’m feeling really comfortable in the car,” he added.
“We know what we need to improve, but we can be happy with our job and, hopefully, we can take a step forward in the coming weeks.”
