Racing Point’s Sergio Perez was excused from Thursday’s media activities ahead of Formula 1’s British Grand Prix after he returned an inconclusive Covid-19 test.
All Formula 1 personnel classified as Profile 1 Attendees have to undergo regular testing for Covid-19 and are also checked for other symptoms, such as high temperatures or a recurrent cough.
Under Closed Events the FIA has arranged for each team’s drivers to be present in 10 separate press conferences which take place across Thursday afternoon, beginning with Williams and concluding with Mercedes.
Ahead of Racing Point’s turn it was announced that only Lance Stroll would be present after Perez returned an inconclusive test result.
As per protocol Perez is isolating away from Silverstone as he awaits the results of a re-test.
Racing Point has Mercedes reserve drivers Stoffel Vandoorne and Esteban Gutierrez as potential back-ups in the event of a regular racer being unavailable.
However, Vandoorne has race duties with Mercedes in Formula E across the next couple of weeks, meaning Gutierrez is likely to be the primary candidate in the event that he is needed.
Vandoorne has not raced in Formula 1 since leaving McLaren at the end of 2018 while Gutierrez’ last start came with Haas in 2016.
