McLaren GT driver Ben Barnicoat will replace Enaam Ahmed at Carlin for this weekend’s FIA Formula 3 round at Silverstone.
Ahmed joined Carlin for the 2020 campaign but failed to score a point across the opening six races of the year in Austria and Hungary.
His best finish was 14th, achieved in the Feature Race at the Hungaroring.
Prior to the fourth round of the season at Silverstone Carlin confirmed that the 20-year-old and his sponsors had parted ways with the team.
His position will be taken by Barnicoat, whose last single-seater season came in 2016, when he classified ninth in European Formula 3.
Barnicoat competed for Carlin in last year’s European Le Mans Series and has a 2020 programme in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup.
The 23-year-old joins Clement Novalak and Cameron Das at the Britain-based outfit.
All of Carlin’s 13 points this year have come from Novalak.
