Sergio Sette Camara will replace Brendon Hartley at GEOX Dragon for Formula E’s 2019/20 season finale in Berlin this August.
The 22-year-old joins the American outfit following the departure of Hartley who formed one half of the team’s entirely new driver line-up for Season 6, with the Kiwi previously partnering Nico Muller.
Hartley’s immediate departure from the team emerged last week, with Sette Camara hotly tipped as the ex-F1 driver’s replacement after assuming the role of Test and Reserve driver in February.
The Brazilian, who is the present Test Driver for the Red Bull and AlphaTauri Formula 1 teams, is no stranger to a Formula E car after contesting the 2020 Marrakesh Rookie Test with Dragon, in which he finished second to future Envision Virgin Racing driver Nick Cassidy.
“The team and I had really strong chemistry in the Marrakesh Rookie Test,” said Sette Camara. “We executed the program, and performed well, finishing the day P2.
“I am delighted to share the news that I will work with them again, this time in a race situation, which makes it even more special. I want to thank Jay Penske and every member of Geox Dragon Racing for giving me this opportunity.”
By ascending to a race seat with the team, Sette Camara will be Dragon’s sixth race driver in the past 18 races, with Hartley, Muller, Maximilian Guenther, Jose Maria Lopez and Felipe Nasr forming what has been a constantly revolving line-up.
Jay Penske, Owner and Team Principal, added: “I have been very impressed with Sérgio on track in Marrakesh, and in his work in the simulator with our engineers to continue to push the development of the PENSKE EV-4 package.
“I look forward to seeing him on track in Berlin, and I fully expect him to challenge for points in his first races with the Team.”
