Curtis Thompson will substitute for Zachary Price as the rear tire changer on Ryan Blaney’s #12 Team Penske pit crew in Sunday’s Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway as Price continues to recovery from a leg injury sustained while pitting the #12 Ford during the Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 5.
“Zach Price continues to recover at home from a lower left leg injury sustained following Sunday’s pit road incident at Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” a statement from the race team read. “Curtis Thompson will serve as rear tire changer for the No. 12 this weekend at Kentucky,” Team Penske announced in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.”
Price was servicing Blaney’s car when a multi-car crash next to the #12 pit stall pinned him between the #12 and another car during a lap-12 competition caution at Indianapolis. Price was taken to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway infield care center and, then, transported to a local hospital. He was released in time to fly home with the rest of the #12 team.
Blaney was credited with a 32nd-place finish at Indianapolis after involvement in another crash later in the race.
