Mercedes will not only have a new-look livery in Austria for the opening race of the delayed 2020 Formula 1 season, but they will have new race suits to match and the Mercedes-supplied Safety Car and Medical Car also enjoy tweaks to how they look.
Earlier this week the reigning champions unveiled a new all-black livery as part of a diversity initiative and on Thursday showed off Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas’ matching race suits.
You’d be forgiven for thinking Mercedes had signed a promotional deal with the Men In Black franchise!
Mercedes’ livery coincides with F1’s push for equality which will see every car on the grid – including the Safety and Medical cars – sporting a rainbow decal as part of the #WeRaceAsOne initiative.
In addition to the ‘WeRaceAsOne’ campaign, the call to ‘Drive Safely’ will be visible on the bonnet of the Safety Car, addressing fans at home who are watching the race on TV or via live stream and reminding them to always drive in a careful and considerate way.
Bernd Mayländer’s ‘company car’ also uses the hashtag #PurposeDriven to promote the FIA’s commitment to safety, sustainability, gender equality and diversity, and points out the FIA Action for Road Safety with mentions on the roof and tailgate of the car.
