IMSA has made a number of changes to the schedule for the 2020 Weathertech Sportscar Championship, changing the dates for three of the championship rounds.
The most significant change involves the date for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen, which has been moved to September 3-6. This solves a major clash with the Intercontinental GT Challenge’s Indianapolis 10 Hours. The race, which was originally set for October 1-4, directly clashed with the GT3 enduro, creating issues for a significant number of teams and drivers.
Instead, the championship round at Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca will now take that slot, which is now set for October 30 – November 1.
A third and final change to the championship schedule involves the GTLM and GTD-only round at Lime Rock Park, which has been moved to the weekend after the Six Hours of the Glen for logistical reasons.
“These revisions to our 2020 schedules put all of IMSA’s stakeholders in the best possible position for success,” said IMSA President John Doonan. “They are also the result of the ongoing spirit of collaboration with our promoter partners.
Moving our Northeastern events into September should pay dividends from the standpoint of weather. WeatherTech Raceway on Halloween weekend also has the potential to be spectacular and will set the stage for a thrilling conclusion at Sebring.”
