Tandy breaks BMW’s IMSA iRacing Pro Series win streak with Road America victory

Nick Tandy has won the IMSA iRacing Pro Series round at Road America, bringing to an end BMW’s win streak in the virtual championship.

Tandy and Porsche junior Ayhancan Güven were front runners for much of the race and moved into the lead after the pitstops when pole sitter and early leader Rodrigo Pflucker took a long pitstop in his #47 Ford GT.

This allowed Tandy to move up into the lead in the #911 Porsche 911 RSR, with Güven behind in second place while championship leader Bruno Spengler moved up into third with a bold pit strategy, only changing two tyres.

The Canadian driver was forced to improvise with his strategy as the previously dominated BMW M8 GTE was behind on pace compared to Porsche and Ford runners.

The battle for victory between Tandy and Güven was decided when the Turkish youngster hit a backmarker and had to pit with damage. Tandy then held off Spengler to take Porsche’s victory in the virtual championship.

Philipp Eng took third place in a dramatic fight for third place that involved two spills in a single laps. First, the BMW M8 GTE of John Edwards held third before he was hit from behind by the Ford of Richard Heistand, which allowed Philipp Eng to slip past both of them into third place.

Eng’s podium spot was then solidified when Heistand came together with Kenton Koch and the pair crashed.

Shinya Michimi finished fourth ahead of Edwards, Koch, Robby Foley’s #96 Turner Motorsport BMW M8 GTE. The top ten was completed by Connor de Philippi, Nicky Catsburg and AJ Allmendinger.
