The Circuit of the Americas has launched an initiative allowing spectators to experience its track, in return for donations towards a local food bank.
COTA, located on the outskirts of Austin, Texas, opened in 2012 and has since been the permanent home of Formula 1’s United States Grand Prix and MotoGP’s Grand Prix of the Americas.
On Sunday May 10 COTA is inviting fans to drive a lap of the 3.4-mile track, with a speed restriction of 20mph, in return for a donation towards the Central Texas Food Bank.
COTA has labelled the initiative as a “parade of unity, hope and fun” and has invited participants to decorate vehicles in support of all frontline workers.
Along with donations from participants Germania Insurance will match up to $10,000, with that figure also matched by COTA and its associated football team Austin Bold FC.
Formula 1’s 2020 United States Grand Prix is currently scheduled for October 25 while the rearranged MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas is set for November 15.
