David Schumacher will compete for Racing Point in this weekend’s Formula 1 Virtual Dutch Grand Prix.
Schumacher, 19, is the son of six-time Formula 1 race winner Ralf, who began his career with Racing Point’s predecessor Jordan in 1997.
Schumacher raced in the Formula Regional European Championship last year and also made his Formula 3 debut, competing in the season-ending Sochi round and standalone Macau Grand Prix.
He will remain in the tertiary series this season after signing to compete for Charouz Racing System.
Formula 1 is holding virtual rounds on its F1 2019 platform in place of grands prix that have been cancelled or postponed due to the pandemic.
Formula 1 was meant to be racing at Zandvoort this weekend but as the returning Dutch Grand Prix venue does not feature in last year’s game Sunday’s event will take place at Interlagos.
“I’m really excited to be competing in the fourth F1 Virtual Grand Prix with BWT Racing Point F1 Team,” said Schumacher.
“I haven’t had much experience of virtual racing – it’s mostly just been with some friends and a regular games controller so far!
“I’m preparing a lot at the moment, driving a couple of hours at least every day, so hope I can get the best out of it and compete nonetheless. I’m sure it’ll be good fun either way.”
