Devlin DeFrancesco and Trident returned to form on the first day of pre-season testing for the FIA Formula 3 Championship at the Bahrain International Circuit.
The Canadian set a time of 1:46.844, which was 0.016 seconds ahead of second place Alex Peroni in the Campos. The top three was completed by Macau GP winner Richard Verschoor for MP Motorsport, with the two ART drivers of Sebastian Fernandez and Theo Pourchaire making up the top five.
Bent Viscaal was fastest in the morning session but ended the day sixth overall on a 1:47.124, ahead of Alex Smolyar and Lirim Zendeli. The top ten was rounded by Igor Fraga and Niko Kari.
The only female driver in the running Sophia Flörsch, enjoyed a successful first day of FIA F3 testing. The German clocked a lap time in the afternoon that was a full second off DeFrancesco’s. That was enough to conclude the PM session in thirteenth position.
Only 29 drivers participated, as Jake Hughes missed the day of running due to prior commitments.
The teams and drivers resume action tomorrow morning.
