Antonio Felix da Costa set the pace in FP1 for the Marrakesh E-Prix as James Rossiter subbed in for Jean-Eric Vergne at DS Techeetah.
The Portuguese racer clocked a 1m 17.863s run in the 45-minute session to top the timesheets, outpacing Mexico City E-Prix race winner Mitch Evans by 0.103s.
The Jaguar Racing driver cemented the runner-up spot, edging Maximilian Gunther who was third for BMW i Andretti Motorsport while Oliver Rowland delivered Nissan e.dams with the fourth quickest time.
Completing the top five, Lucas di Grassi trailled da Costa by 0.555s, only 0.003s ahead of Sam Bird who followed in sixth for Envision Virgin Racing.
Sebastien Buemi was seventh in the second Nissan IM02 while Daniel Abt was eighth in the second works Audi, only 0.051s slower than his team-mate.
Jerome d’Ambrosio and Robin Frijns completed the top 10 as the lead Mahindra and trailling Envision Virgin drivers respectively, with 0.691s covering the lead group.
Outside of the top 10, Andre Lotterer was the lead Porsche driver in 12th while Nyck de Vries outpaced Mercedes EQ team-mate Stoffel Vandoorne, fronting a 19-23 result for the German marque.
Rossiter, who participated in his maiden Formula E practice outing, stood in for DS Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne in the session, with the Frenchman unable to drive after a spate of headaches.
Formula E’s reigning double champion is set to return to the cockpit on Saturday when on-track action for the fifth race of the 2019/20 campiagn will continue.
