Ferrari’s pre-season testing programme has been dealt a setback after Sebastian Vettel suffered an engine issue on Friday in Spain.
Vettel, who sat out Wednesday’s action due to suffering from flu, drove the SF1000 on Friday morning at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
But just over 90 minutes into the day’s running his car came to a halt at Turn 12 after amassing 40 laps.
The session was halted while Vettel’s car was retrieved.
Ferrari confirmed that a yet-to-be-determined engine problem caused the car to stop and the issue will be investigated back at the team’s base in Maranello.
The team will fit a new engine in order to return to action on Friday afternoon, with Vettel on driving duties.
