Daniel Abt has been taken to hospital for precautionary checks following a high-speed accident in the opening practice session of the Mexico City E-Prix.
The Audi factory driver crashed in Turn 9 of the Formula E layout of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez with 12-minutes of FP1 remaining, with this accident causing a red flag.
With seven minutes of running remaining, it was confirmed that the session would not be resumed while the subsequent qualifying session for the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY was cancelled as track repairs continued.
A spokesperson from Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler confirmed Abt’s hospitalisation following the accident to www.MotorsportWeek.com following a ‘thumbs up’, with the German racer getting taken to a nearby hospital in the Mexican capital via helicopter.
Abt has enjoyed success at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in the past, recording his maiden Formula E victory in the 2018 edition of the event while Audi has won the past three races held at the circuit.
It is unknown if Abt will return to the cockpit this weekend, with this dependent upon medical clearance. Audi does not have a reserve driver present in Mexico, with former driver Nico Muller representing GEOX Dragon.
