After many fretful days of worry and stress, the FIA and WRC Promoter have finally confirmed that the second round of the FIA World Rally Championship in Sweden will go ahead next weekend. Despite unseasonably low levels of snow cover over the rally’s route, the Rally Sweden organising committee has made a number of changes to the route for this exciting event to go ahead on 13-16 February.
Rally Sweden CEO Glenn Olsson commented: “Snow has fallen in the rally region in recent days. But the unseasonably warm weather and current weather forecasts continue to provide concerns as to the suitability of the roads in the special stages to allow the event to go ahead as planned. We continue to examine every possible way to ensure the rally goes ahead. The conditions are being monitored constantly and the situation will be re-evaluated with any decisions required to be made this week.”
The Rally Sweden Historic Rally – due to run this week – has been cancelled so as to provide the best possible road conditions for the WRC event next weekend.
