AJ Foyt Racing has announced that Four-time Champ Car Series champion Sebastien Bourdais and rookie Dalton Kellett will share duties with Tony Kanaan in the #14 entry for the upcoming NTT IndyCar season.
Last week Kanaan announced a part time run in 2020 which will see him compete on the oval courses only. The road courses on the schedule have now been confirmed to be split between the two newly announced drivers.
Bourdais will contest four races including the first three races of the season. Kellet will make his IndyCar debut with a nine race schedule which includes the Indianapolis 500, where he will field a third entry for AJ Foyt Racing.
The two newly announced drivers have vastly different experience levels, with Bourdais starting his CART career back in 2003 and the 26-year-old Kellet using this opportunity to make the step up from the Indy Lights class.
Team President Larry Foyt believes the variety in the garage will be beneficial to rebuilding the team after a tough season. “There will be many familiar faces in the Foyt garages this season, but there will be some new faces as well,” Foyt said.
“I believe adding a multi-time champion like Sebastien Bourdais to our team will help us as we regroup and work to regain a competitive position.
“Being able to retain Indy 500 champion Tony Kanaan is another source of excitement and will serve to push our oval program to a place where we can fight for victories.
“Dalton Kellett is a young driver who is intelligent and motivated, and with the experience around him, we feel he has the potential to show great things.”
Bourdais, Kellet, and full-time driver for the team’s #4 entry Charlie Kimball will all be present at the preseason test at Circuit of the Americas next week.
