Formula 2’s MP Motorsport has announced 19-year-old Brazilian driver Felipe Drugovich as its first signing for the 2020 F2 campaign.
The Brazilian teenager makes the step up to F2 following his promising 2019 FIA Formula 3 season with Carlin Buzz Racing, where he finished 16th, and his equally impressive post-season F2 test with MP Motorsport at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, where he was the fourth quickest rookie and finished 10th overall.
Sander Dorsman, MP Motorsport’s Team Manager said: “Felipe did a great job in his F2 test with us. He was eager to learn and improved every session. So when the moment came to sign him for the 2020 season, we didn’t hesitate one bit.
“We’ve kept an eye on Felipe ever since his title-winning performances in the lower categories, and it’s great that he’s now part of the team.”
Following his single-seater debut in 2016 in the German ADAC F4 series, Drugovich claimed the 2017/2018 MRF Challenge Formula 2000 title, with MRF Racing, as well as the 2018 EuroFormula Open and the Spanish Formula 3 Championships with RP Motorsport.
On his signing, Drugovich said: “I’m really happy to join MP Motorsport for my first season in FIA Formula 2. We worked very well together in the Abu Dhabi test, and that gave me the confidence that as a combination we can do very well in 2020.
“I can’t wait to get back in the car for the first pre-season tests and my first race weekend in FIA Formula 2.”
