Matheus Leist will switch from IndyCar to the IMSA WeatherTech Championship for the 2020 season after signing a deal to compete for JDC-Miller MotorSports.
Leist, 21, claimed the British F3 title in 2016 before moving to America to compete in the Indy Lights championship, finishing fourth with Carlin.
Leist has spent the last two years competing for A. J. Foyt Racing in IndyCar though registered only two top 10 finishes across 34 starts, and was thought unlikely to retain his seat.
On Saturday it was confirmed that Leist will link up with Juan Piedrahita to pilot the No. 85 Cadillac Dpi-V.R, with Chris Miller joining the duo for the Daytona 24 Hours.
"To be honest I could not be happier to join JDC-Miller MotorSports in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship for 2020,” said Leist.
“I have driven for Chevrolet for the last two years in IndyCar and I am super excited to stay in the GM family and to now drive a Cadillac DPi-V.R. prototype. I can't wait to get to Daytona.”
Added JDC-Miller team owner John Church: “We are very excited about our driver roster for the Rolex 24 and the whole season.
“We're thrilled to have Matheus joining us in the No. 85 entry and know he will be a great addition to our line-up.
“I'm also happy to welcome back Juan and Chris to try to build on what we learned together last season.
“We feel we have strong line-ups in both of our entries for 2020 and it certainly will be an advantage running two cars again."
