DTM and its parent organisation ITR have outlined further details for the DTM Trophy, which will serve as a support series for the 2020 season.
The DTM Trophy is a GT series, with cars from FIA categories E2-SH and E2-SC entitled to compete. This includes DTM regulars Audi, BMW and Aston Martin, as well as Mercedes-AMG, Porsche, McLaren, Ford, Chevrolet, Lotus, Jaguar, Toyota and Nissan.
The series organizers have outlined the prize-money structure, exclusive DTM test drive offer, and tyre partnership for the new championship, which is to be held at seven DTM weekends next season.
The series will distribute a prize fund of €150,000 between the top three drivers in the championship. The winner receives €75,000; second place €50,000; and €25,000 for third. On top of this, the winner of the championship’s junior classification – for drivers aged under 22 – will receive a DTM test opportunity at the end of the 2020 season.
Lastly, ITR has signed a four-year deal with tyre manufacturer Hankook to become the series’ exclusive tyre supplier. The Korean company already supplies tyres for the DTM championship, and also supplied all tyres for last week’s SUPER GT x DTM Dream Race.
The DTM Trophy will feature two free-practice sessions per race weekend on Fridays, and a 20-minute qualifying session and 30-minute race each on Saturdays and Sundays.
“The DTM Trophy isn’t just a professionally organised series taking place on a high-profile European stage, it’s an extremely attractive package for ambitious youngsters and serious professionals alike – with the added bonus of some highly desirable prizes and incentives,” said Achim Kostron, ITR managing director.
“And, with a prize fund of €150,000 and a DTM test drive on offer for the best young driver, we have also included some serious incentives and unique opportunities for the participants. We’re also very pleased to have gained the support of our long-term partner Hankook. All DTM Trophy entrants will not only receive premium racing components, but also Hankook’s incredible and high-quality fitting and servicing standards, too.”
