Simon Evans secured pole position for the opening race of the 2019/20 Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY season.
The opening qualifying session of the series' second season was shortened by 10-minutes and on a dusty Riyadh Street Circuit, it was Team Asia New Zealand's Evans who emerged at the top of the timesheets.
Posting a 1:34.744 lap, Evans was at the front of the field by 0.254s. Inaugural champion Sergio Jimenez was the Kiwi's closest challenger in second while VIP driver Abbie Eaton impressed by taking third in qualifying as a guest driver.
Alice Powell, who joins the series full-time following a guest VIP appearance in Season 1, secured a spot on the second row of the grid by taking fourth while Yaqi Zhang completed the top five as the lead Pro-Am driver.
Series rookie Fahad Algosaibi took sixth as the lead Saudi Racing driver while Sun Chao was seventh.
Mario Haberfeld, who stands in for Caca Bueno at Jaguar Brazil Racing in Diriyah, was eighth as the slowest Pro driver, returning to competitive motorsport following a 10-year absence while Bal Hejaila and second VIP driver Reema Juffali completed the top 10.
