Porsche ‘venturing into the unknown’ on Formula E debut – Neel Jani

Neel Jani has said that the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team is "venturing into the unknown" ahead of its Formula E debut in Diriyah next week.

For Season 6, Porsche is one of two new teams on the Formula E grid, with fellow German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz also joining the all-electric championship.

Alongside its manufacturer test days, Porsche completed additional running during pre-season testing in Valencia last month and finished towards the rear of the field, with Jani and team-mate Andre Lotterer securing the 19th and 22nd fastest laps of the week in the combined classification.

"I am really looking forward to it," said Jani in the run-up to Season 6. "It is great that it’s finally about to get underway. But we are also aware that we are venturing into the unknown, which makes it all very exciting.

"We are well prepared, but it’s not possible to simulate critical situations at the racetrack. We will be fully focussed heading into our first Formula E season."

While Jani already has two E-Prix starts to his name, contesting the Season 4 Hong Kong E-Prix in an ill-fated campaign with Dragon Racing, the Swiss racer's Gen2 debut will come at the Riyadh Street Circuit – one of the most technical venues on the 2019/20 calendar.

"My first impression of the track in Diriyah is definitely positive," he added. "The up and down sections, and the differences in altitude these bring are noticeable.

"The first part of the track has fast turns and more flowing parts, while the second sector, with its slow, narrow turns, is more reminiscent of a traditional Formula E track.

"There are also hardly any bumps, which is unusual for a Formula E street circuit. All in all, the track is technically demanding, since it has every possible type of turn there is."

The double-header Diriyah E-Prix will take place on November 22 and 23, kicking off Formula E's sixth season which is the series' longest and most competitive campaign to date.
