Sergio Perez must start Formula 1’s United States Grand Prix from the pit lane after failing to stop at the weighbridge during second practice.
Perez was requested to stop for weighing at the end of the second session but drove onwards, and was then serviced by Racing Point in the pit era.
It is the second time this season, after Pierre Gasly in Azerbaijan, that the penalty has been handed out.
Stewards at the Circuit of the Americas reviewed video evidence, heard from Perez, and a team representative, and determined he “failed to stop when required to do so.
“Instead, he drove on and proceeded to do a pit stop where the car was worked on by lifting the car and all four wheels were changed.”
The stewards determined that they have “no discretion to impose an alternative penalty” under the regulations, meaning Perez must start the race from the pit lane.
