David Schumacher will take part in the double-header Formula 3 season finale at Sochi, taking over Alex Peroni's seat at Campos Racing.
Peroni was involved in a terrifying accident during the Italian round of the championship, which saw him catapulted into the air after hitting a sausage kerb, with his car coming to a rest on the tyre barrier.
Peroni suffered a broken vertebrae in the crash and is therefore unable to race at next weekend's season finale.
Schumacher, son of former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher and Formula 4 UAE vice-champion, will take up the vacant seat.
"I am really happy to join a high-profile team such as Campos Racing. It will be my first time driving a car like this so, we should be realistic and put our focus on learning as much as possible," said Schumacher.
Campos president Adrián Campos added: "I would like to extend a very warm welcome to such a talented driver as David. I am sure that he is definitely promising a brilliant future in motorsport. We are aiming at helping him progress his career."
Schumacher will therefore join cousin Mick on the Formula 1 support bill, with last year's European Formula 3 champion competing for Prema in Formula 2.
