Renault-backed youngster Christian Lundgaard has received his first taste of contemporary Formula 1 machinery during a private test outing in Hungary.
Lundgaard, 18, has been part of Renault’s young driver academy since 2017, and this year is racing for ART Grand Prix in Formula 3.
He holds fifth in the standings, having taken one victory at the Hungaroring, where his Formula 1 test took place on Thursday.
The Dane amassed mileage in Renault’s 2017-spec car, the R.S.17.
“It was a good day with a childhood dream coming true: driving a Formula 1 car on a race track,” he said.
“I’ve done some demos before bit nothing can compare to this.
“I’m pretty pleased with the day in general, I kept it on the black stuff, which was important and completed a lot of laps.
“I felt comfortable straight away, which was pleasing. It was unbelievable driving down the straight for the first time and then feeling the brake power the car has.
“Hopefully, one day, I will drive a current car with my name on it and do all the races. That’s my goal.
“I’d like to thank Renault for the opportunity. It was unreal and something I will remember for a very long time.”
