Formula 2 driver and Alfa Romeo F1 test driver Tatiana Calderon will join the W Series for its selection test next week in an advisory role.
The Colombian racer will share her experience and knowledge with the 14 female drivers fighting it out to join the 2020 W Series grid, following the conclusion of the inaugural season, in which only the top 12 in the championship automatically qualifying for a place on the grid the following year.
The test is due to take place on September 16 and will last for three days, with the aim of evaluating each driver using various tests, including simulators and track time in the Tatuus T-318 Formula 3 car.
“We have been watching Tatiana’s career with great interest, and she is clearly one of the most successful female drivers in the world,” commented W Series CEO, Catherine Bond Muir.
“We have seen some brilliant talent emerge during our first W Series season, and so naturally we are really happy to have her support. With her experience she already knows the strengths you need to succeed.”
Calderón added: “I’m excited to meet the other drivers on track, learn more about W Series and give a bit back to the sport that I love, and that has given me so much.”
The 14 new drivers hoping to get through the selection process are; Abbie Eaton (UK), Abbie Munro (UK), Anna Inotsume (Japan), Ayla Agren (Norway), Belen Garcia (Spain), Bruna Tomaselli (Brazil), Cheslea Herbert (New Zealand), Courtney Crone (USA), Gabriela Jilkova (Czech Republic), Hannah Grisham (USA), Irina Sidorkova (Russia), Katherine Legge (UK), Michelle Gatting (Denmark), Nerea Marti (Spain).
