HWA Racelab team boss Ulrich Fritz has hailed the team’s Season 5 Formula E campaign as a “magnificent journey” ahead of Mercedes’ takeover the next season.
HWA joined Formula E in preparation for Mercedes’ Season 6 debut and experienced an increasingly impressive campaign, growing in pace and experience on a weekend by weekend basis.
The height of HWA’s season came at the Rome E-Prix, with Stoffel Vandoorne claiming pole position for the German outfit while the ex McLaren Formula 1 driver also secured pole position in Hong Kong.
HWA ended Season 5 in ninth in the Teams’ Championship, with Vandoorne and team-mate Gary Paffett securing 44 points to beat rival teams GEOX Dragon and NIO in the final standings.
Reflecting on the 2018/19 campaign, Fritz hailed the squad’s learning curve, expressing his excitement for Season 6 which will commence later this year:
"We have learned a lot together as a team. It has been a magnificent journey, with a few set-backs but many highs," he said.
"I am really proud of the team and what we have achieved over the past few months.
"I can only thank everyone for the incredible effort every single person has put in.
"We will be back with the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team in Season 6, and are already really looking forward to it."
Joining Formula E, Mercedes will be one of two new teams on the grid, with Porsche also enlisting into the all-electric single-seater series, expanding the grid to 24 drivers.
Season 6 will commence on November 22 in Ad Diriyah.
