Lance Stroll says his Racing Point RP19 “feels alive” around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as the team impressed during second practice for Formula 1’s Canadian Grand Prix.
Racing Point has struggled during recent races, with the RP19 off the pace in Spain and Monaco, as the team failed to add to its points tally.
Stroll, meanwhile, has yet to escape Q1 so far in 2019.
But on Friday in Montreal Stroll finished at the foot of the top 10 while team-mate Sergio Perez classified seventh.
“It feels alive at the moment, which is good,” Stroll said of the car.
“I’m sure that there are still some things to improve on as always leading up to qualifying and the race but both the performance runs and high fuel runs seemed promising.
“For sure, the others are going to work hard overnight. The key is to remain composed going into tomorrow and see what we can do!”
Perez, who finished on the podium at the circuit with Sauber in 2012, added: “It was a promising day.
“We got the most out of today, but it doesn’t matter, it matters tomorrow.
“We did a lot of tests with different packages and hopefully tonight we can come up with the best possible solution and maybe be a bit stronger for tomorrow’s qualifying.”
Racing Point holds fifth spot in the Constructors’ Championship.
