Daniel Ricciardo will drop three places on the grid from wherever he qualifies at the Spanish Grand Prix after his clash with Daniil Kvyat in Azerbaijan.
Ricciardo tried to make a move on Kvyat into Turn 3 at the Baku City Circuit but ran deep and took both of them wide.
The pair did not make contact, but as they sat in the run-off Ricciardo reversed into Kvyat, causing damage to the rear of his Renault R.S.19 and the floor of Kvyat’s Toro Rosso STR14.
Both drivers continued but ultimately retired from the race shortly afterwards.
Stewards confirmed that they “reviewed video evidence and heard from the driver of Car 3, the driver of Car 26 and team representatives.
It was determined that “the driver of Car 3 reversed into Car 26, thereby causing a collision.”
