Formula 2 rookie Mahaveer Raghunathan has received a 10-place grid penalty for the next race in Azerbaijan for completing an extra lap at racing speed at the end of the Bahrain sprint race.
The MP Motorsport driver, who finished 19th in the second race of the weekend, bizarrely kept traveling at racing speed for an extra full lap once the chequered flag had fallen, crossing the finish line on two separate occasions.
Raghunathan has endured a tough start to his F2 campaign after running off the pace compared to his rivals and experienced team-mate Jordan King.
The other penalty handed out over the weekend was for the Trident of Giuliano Alesi. During his mandatory pit-stop the pit crew had fitted a tyre allocated for the right-hand side on the left-hand side of his Trident car.
This was in breach of Article 24.1 of the 2019 FIA F2 championship sporting regulations which resulted in the Frenchman being disqualified from 18th place.
The next race is in Baku, Azerbaijan on April 26-28.
