Williams co-founder Sir Patrick Head is set to return to the squad on a short-term consultancy basis, as the team attempts to recover from its dismal start to 2019.
Williams finished last in the 2018 Constructors’ Championship and several leading figures departed at phases in the year, including chief designer Ed Wood, head of aero Dirk de Beer, along with Rob Smedley.
Head co-founded Williams alongside Sir Frank Williams in the 1970s and was an instrumental figure in its success through the 1980s and 1990s.
He stepped away in 2011 but remained affiliated to the organisation through his position as a shareholder.
Williams has endured an underwhelming start to the 2019 season, with its FW42 initially delayed during testing, before emerging as comfortably the slowest car.
In a statement issued to the official Formula 1 website, Williams said: “We can confirm that Sir Patrick Head is currently offering some support to our engineering team on a short-term consultancy basis.”
Williams is currently without a technical leader after Paddy Lowe was placed on a leave of absence prior to the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
