Sauber Junior Team member Juan Manuel Correa has been appointed to the role of Alfa Romeo Racing’s Formula 1 Development Driver.
Correa, 19, joined the new-for-2019 Sauber Junior Team and will graduate to Formula 2 this year with the operation, which is run by Charouz Racing System.
Correa joins fellow Formula 2 racer Tatiana Calderon at Alfa Romeo, with the Colombian holding the position of test driver.
“To have received this opportunity, and to be a part of such an iconic team and brand in motorsports, Formula 1 in particular, is a privilege for any driver,” said Correa.
“I will do my best to honour the opportunity I have been given and want to thank Fred [Vasseur] and the entire Alfa Romero Racing Team for having me. I’m excited for what the future has to hold.”
Correa will make his Formula 2 debut at next weekend’s season-opener in Bahrain.
On Correa’s appointment, Vasseur said: “We are happy to announce that Juan Manuel has joined Alfa Romeo Racing.
"Juan Manuel will be taking on a new challenge with our team as our Development Driver and we look forward to further advancing his skills in support of his progress as a racing driver.”
