ART Grand Prix’s Nyck de Vries led the way during the opening day of Formula 2’s second pre-season test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
De Vries – who topped the timesheets during two of last week’s three test days at Jerez – headed both the morning and the afternoon session as final preparations for 2019 began.
De Vries’ quickest effort of 1:28.655 came during the afternoon running and left him 0.117s clear of DAMS’ McLaren F1 tester Sergio Sette Camara.
Last year’s GP3 runner-up Nikita Mazepin made it a 1-3 for ART Grand Prix while UNI-Virtuosi’s Luca Ghiotto placed fourth, six-thousandths in front of Carlin’s Louis Deletraz.
Mick Schumacher joined Mazepin, Ghiotto and Deletraz in finishing in the 1:28.8s, with Jack Aitken next up for Campos Racing.
Guan Yu Zhou (UNI-Virtuosi), Sean Gelael (Prema) and Ralph Boschung (testing for Trident) rounded out the top 10.
Testing continues at the Spanish Grand Prix venue on Wednesday.
