The night running at the Rolex 24 at Daytona has claimed more high-profile victims in the #4 Corvette of Tommy Milner and #55 Mazda of Olivier Pla, both of which fell in the 16th hour.
Milner lost control of his Corvette C7.R heading into Turn 1 and aquaplaned off before colliding with the tyre barrier separating the first corner and the entry onto the oval at Turn 6. Milner climbed out of the stricken Corvette and entered a recovery vehicle.
Roughly two hours earlier, Olivier Pla was struck from behind by an unseen car on the exit of the International Horseshoe and spun, suffering significant damage to the rear bodywork and suspension.
Mazda Team Joest later confirmed that the #55 had indeed been retired, following the #77 which retired following terminal engine damage in the seventh hour.
With just over eight hours left to run, Fernando Alonso leads overall in the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi.
