Romain Grosjean says he expects to remain in Formula 1 until he reaches the age of 40, believing he still has a lot to give to the sport.
Grosjean made his debut in 2009 and returned in 2012 after a two-year absence, remaining in the championship ever since, with Lotus and latterly Haas.
The 10-time podium finisher will be the fourth-oldest driver on the grid in 2019 but stressed that he still has high motivation to prove his value in the sport.
“I’ve done eight years in Formula 1, I believe I’ve got another six, seven, eight to go,” Grosjean said in an interview with Motorsport Week’s sister publication Motorsport Monday.
“Kimi [Raikkonen]’s 39 and signed a two-year deal! I started [in F1] at 27 so it’s not like I started when I was 17.
“I’m 32 and have done six [successive] years in F1, I can go six, seven [more], I think I’ve got the energy for it as long as I keep performing.
“A lot of people lose their… you know Fernando [Alonso], why does he get frustrated and angry on the radio?
“I think, my opinion is, it’s because he hasn’t lost that wish to win, and you always want to win, so when you don’t win for three, four, five years and your car is s**t and you know it, you get frustrated.
“Other drivers, athletes in general, are happy with [earning] X million per year [or act like] ‘I do what I like’. I’m kind of the same as Fernando. I’ve never lost that wish that I can win a race.”
A wide-ranging interview with Romain Grosjean will be published in the upcoming edition of Motorsport Monday.
