Nissan e.dams has confirmed that it has released Alexander Albon from his contract, paving the way for the Anglo-Thai driver to join Toro Rosso's Formula 1 team.
Nissan, which took over Renault's Formula E entry, confirmed in September that it has recruited Albon to partner former champion Sebastien Buemi for the 2018/19 season.
At pre-season testing, however, at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia, Albon did not complete any running for the team as speculation mounted that he was being chased by Toro Rosso for 2019, leading Nissan to field Oliver Rowland on the final day of action.
Nissan has now confirmed that it has released Albon from his three-year deal with the manufacturer, with the 22-year-old now poised to join Daniil Kvyat at Toro Rosso.
It is understood that Albon's replacement at Nissan e.dams will be announced on Friday, November 30 at the team's launch in Tokyo.
Formula E's fifth season of competition will commence on December 15 for the inaugural Ad Diriyah E-Prix in Saudi Arabia.
