Lewis Hamilton will start the final race of the 2018 Formula 1 season from pole position as the Mercedes driver was out of reach for his rivals around Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina circuit.
The Briton smashed the previous lap record with a pole time of 1:34.794 on his final flying lap of the session. His closest rival was Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas who starts second, 0.162s adrift as he was once again overshadowed by the five-time World Champion.
It was a closely fought session with it looking like pole could have gone to any of the top six, that was until Q3 when Hamilton stretched the margin beyond Mercedes' rivals, with Sebastian Vettel ending up third, more than three-tenths back.
Kimi Raikkonen made it an all-Ferrari second row, whilst Red Bull owns row three with Daniel Ricciardo beating Max Verstappen to fifth by almost two-tenths.
Romain Grosjean claimed the 'best of the rest' trophy to start seventh ahead of Sauber's Charles Leclerc, Force India's Esteban Ocon and Renault's Nico Hulkenberg closing out the top ten.
Their respective team-mates all failed to escape Q2 with Carlos Sainz missing out by just a tenth to start P11.
Fernando Alonso starred in Q1 to make it through to Q2 in what could be his final ever F1 qualifying session ahead of his retirement, but couldn't make much of an impact in the second session to start P15.
The Spaniard has however dominated his team-mate Stoffel Vandoorne this year, coming out on top on every Saturday this season.
Toro Rosso were 16th and 17th with Brendon Hartley beating Red Bull-bound Pierre Gasly, although the Frenchman had to stop on-track following his last effort with a reported engine issue.
The Williams duo brought up the rear with Sergey Sirotkin winning out against Lance Stroll to start 19th.
