Carlos Sainz Jr. will test a McLaren for the first time during next week’s post-race Formula 1 running at the Yas Marina Circuit.
Sainz Jr. has raced for Renault since late 2017 but has been given the all-clear to link up with McLaren to sample the MCL33 in Abu Dhabi.
Sainz Jr. will pilot the MCL33 on Wednesday at Yas Marina, taking over duties from 2019 team-mate and rookie Lando Norris.
Next year will be Sainz Jr.’s fifth in Formula 1, with the Spaniard having made his debut in 2015 for Toro Rosso, having previously carried out a handful of test days for Red Bull.
A line-up of Sainz Jr. and Norris marks a complete overhaul for McLaren, having fielded Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne across the past two seasons.
Formula 1 teams will stay on at Yas Marina for two days of running on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the action officially designated as a tyre test.
