Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton believes his Mercedes team are legends as they continue to raise the bar in the wake of the Silver Arrows claiming their fifth consecutive constructors' title in Brazil.
Hamilton's 10th victory of the season at Interlagos was enough to secure Mercedes' fifth constructors crown moving them into fifth in the all-time standings behind Ferrari (16), Williams (9), McLaren (8) and Lotus (7).
Prior to the summer break, both titles looked set to go to the wire. However, Hamilton and Mercedes went on a winning streak from Monza to Suzuka to put the fate of the 2018 titles in their hands.
The 33-year old also nearly failed to finish in Brazil after potential power unit problems threatened to take away a 72nd career win and force the constructors' title to go to the final race in Abu Dhabi.
"That's real history in the making for the team," said the five-time World Champion. "If I were to stop today with Mercedes, I would always remember that day and that I was a part of it and that's so cool.
"This has been a seriously tough year and everyone on this team has fought so hard, harder than we've ever fought and we're the most united that we've ever been – which is not expected when you've had success in previous years and could easily drop the ball.
"The guys have been continuing to raise the bar. [Brazil] was such a tough race for me, but I really wanted to deliver and win this for the team.
"It has such a big knock-on effect; everyone on the team can now go into the last race and into the winter, knowing that they won the world title and that they're legends.
"I am so grateful for all the hard work – here at the track, back home at the factories – I'm so proud to be part of this team. I'm actually kind of nervous to go back to the factories and hear the roar – I think the atmosphere is going to be incredible."
