Ahead of the 11th round of the 2018 Formula 2 Championship this weekend at Sochi Autodrom, Spaniard Roberto Merhi will make his return to the series, replacing Roy Nissany at Campos Racing.
Merhi, who raced in Formula 1 in 2015 for Manor, contested the first eight rounds of the 2018 season for MP Motorsport before being replaced by Dorian Boccolacci for the remainder of the season.
Partnering Luca Ghiotto at Campos, Merhi will replace Nissany who has endured a difficult rookie campaign in the series, scoring only one solitary point at the Belgian Feature Race in 20 race starts.
“I’m pleased to make my comeback to the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Campos Vexatec Racing," said Merhi who memorably secured a podium at the Monegasque round of the championship.
"We know each other perfectly and I think we aspire for big things in the remaining races; Campos has a competitive car and, besides, I have gained valuable experience earlier this season. So I feel more prepared after achieving good results."
Campos Racing's President, Adrián Campos, underlined high expectations for the driver in the final four races of the 2018 season that will culminate at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi this November:
“We have no doubts Roberto has bold goals ahead. I’m sure he will perform extremely well in the upcoming races," he said.
"He has already experience in the series and we are expecting great results considering how talented Roberto is. Adaption isn’t a problem either as we have already worked together previously.
"We will make our best to make him feel at home and meet our expectations,” he added.
Despite missing the two most recent rounds of the 2018 season, Merhi currently occupies 14th in the Drivers' Championship with 41 points while Campos occupy seventh in the Teams' Standings with 95 points.
