Fernando Alonso sampled IndyCar machinery on a road course for the first time on Wednesday when he piloted the #29 Andretti machine in mixed weather conditions at the Barber Motorsports Park.
Alonso described the test as "something special" as he continues to evaluate his 2019 options in the wake of confirming last month that he will not be on the Formula 1 grid.
Alonso has been tipped to make the switch to IndyCar as he bids to win motorsport's Triple Crown, with the Indianapolis 500 the only missing piece of the puzzle, having already triumphed at the Monaco Grand Prix and the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Alonso made his debut at last year's Indianapolis 500 and spent several stints in the lead until an engine failure forced him out in the closing stages.
